Stanovnistvo (Population)

Levi klik za vecu slikuAs the oldest demographic journal on the Balkans, Stanovnistvo began to be published in 1963, immediately after the foundation of the Demographic Research Center of the Institute of Social Sciences, with an aim to gather demographers and researchers of related scientific disciplines. The promoter and first editor was academician Miloš Macura. Thus, for more than four decades, Stanovnistvo represented the only journal from the science on population in former Yugoslavia. It is also one of the rare demographic journals on the territory of Southeastern Europe.

In the last decades, more than 100 authors from the whole former Yugoslavia published their works. Many demographers from around the world contributed to the reputation and significance of the journal with their papers, including the most famous researchers from the science on population such as: Frank Lorimer, Edward Rosset, Massimo Livi-Bacci, Zdenek Pavlik, and Robert Cliquet.

The journal significantly helped and is still contributing to the development of demography, enabling the spreading of relevant facts to researchers of other scientific disciplines. It is an important source of information to graduate and post-graduate students, and it has the role of spreading positive population climate and in forming the consciousness on the importance of population factor.

A constituent part of each article present extensive resumes in English and in the last few years selected articles are published in English and French. Such a concept enabled the CICRED “Review of Population Reviews” to regularly publish abstracts of articles published in the journal Stanovnistvo. Bibliographic data on the journal may be found regularly on the Internet.

Since 1989, Stanovnistvo has been published by co-publishers – Institute of Social Sciences and the Serbian Demographic Society. The publishing of the journal is financed by the Republic of Serbia - Ministry for Science and Environmental Protection.

The editor of the journal is Dr Mirjana Rasevic. The Council consists of Milos Banicevic, Branislav Djurdjev, Alain Parant, Miroslav Rasevic, Milena Spasovski. Editorial staff include Mirjana Devedzic, Byron Kotzamanis, Miladin Kovacevic, Goran Penev, Mina Petrovic, Biljana Radivojevic, Jean-Paul Sardon and Marina Todorovic.
